Margin vs Markup

Margin is profit as a percentage of the selling price. Markup is profit as a percentage of your cost. A 25% margin is not the same as a 25% markup. For example, if your cost is $1,000 and you want a 25% margin, you need to charge $1,333.33 (not $1,250).
