Concrete Slab Cost Breakdown
A concrete slab is the backbone of patios, driveways, and garages. While the materials are relatively cheap, potential labor and finishing costs can double or triple the final price tag.
Where Does the Money Go?
Our calculator breaks down the three main cost centers:
Materials (30-40%)
The concrete itself, plus gravel base, vapor barrier, and rebar reinforcement.
Labor (40-50%)
Excavation, form setting, pouring, and finishing. This is the hardest variable to estimate.
Finishing (10-20%)
Basic broom finish is cheap. Stamping or polishing is a premium upgrade.
Finishing Options Explained
- Broom Finish: Standard non-slip texture. Best for driveways and sidewalks.
- Stamped Concrete: Imprinted to look like stone, brick, or wood. High aesthetic appeal.
- Polished Concrete: Smooth, glossy finish usually for interiors (garages/basements).
- Colored/Stained: Adds earth tones or vibrant colors to plain grey concrete.
DIY vs. Pro
Pouring a small 10x10 patio is a manageable weekend DIY project. Pouring a 20x20 driveway requires a crew. Concrete waits for no one—if you can't finish it before it sets, you'll need a jackhammer to fix it.
